The Bergen Edgars, Little Leggers & Choosey Beggars

As deconstructing the magazine has been all the rage lately, I figure I throw my hat into the ring with an existing episode I am having with a rather potent whiff of stich-bind stardom of my own.

Well, not too long ago, I posted my first post to this blog to celebrate the dispatch of the collaboration between Yokoo Scarves & Urban Outfitters. The post took far too long to conjure and actually frighten me from even thinking about what this darn blog would ultimately typify.

(Perhaps Im on to something (the first blog about un-blogging)).

After the news had traveled around the interwebs and back, to my surprise, I was propositioned with yet another co-operative venture.

A certain well known designer is currently shaping a “Victorious” ad campaign in which modern women who each have their own personal tales of triumph share their inspiration all while looking, quite inspiring.

I was woefully floored, and initially thought maybe they had possibly emailed the wrong Yokoo.

I had never really shared many stories of triumph until I had posted the “Bottoms Edge” post last week, and couldn’t imagine such a designer taking a gander at my account between midnight masquerades in New York. Impossible.  Though happenings like this usually fall flat right as I am about to commit, I decided to continue reading anyway.

And just as I thought, there was “the fine print.” a little less understated than the Eyelash Conundrum, I was asked about my height and weight. Ugghh! This didn’t anger me, as it just puzzled me. What would an ad campaign about “triumph,” have anything to do with body size?

It’s not that i feel I am overweight, but because of the exact opposite – I am extremely proud of my body.

I long for those blithely days when my female cohorts mirrored the same objections. In my tiny, microscopic opinion, the women of yesterday were far more sexy and appealing than the oddities that are stuffed in magazines today.  Though as an designer myself, I truly  understand the psychological philosophy that motivates  this movement, I am still bothered by women’s consent to continue to play its game.

That being said,  I would still welcome the opportunity to inspire other young women as myself-wether  by paper, cathode  or pixel.  Inspiration is inspiration.

I decided to leave a few of my own artifacts of inspiration after the post. Enjoy.

This is such a great topic to be discussed! What happened to you is not cool at all. What did you do?

As you, if the ad’s idea is to showcase stories of modern “everyday” people and not models or actors, I didn’t understand the weight and hight question, it makes no sense.. I think you’re one of the most interesting people to be expressing them selfs in a more global medium as is this ad thing, so I say go forward. You deserve the attention :) And maybe it’s a way to inspire people in such a confused world filled with uninteresting individuals (if you can call them individuals)that usually get all of the attention. I’m not sure what I would do.. I’m not much into being on the public eye…
Can’t wait to hear what you decided..

I’m not sure what’s going to happen! They said they might pick me and I was being considered, then could we have your height and weight. So We’ll see…

Well I’ve always wondered about your height and weight but haven’t had a good enough excuse to ask! Will you also share your blood type?

that is so upsetting! while i would say that your body (especially your face and they way you have deployed it in photos has been integral to your success) the quantifiable parts of your body have nothing to do with it. ugh!

you are an inspiration. keep at it.

Any chance they are just asking for planning purposes? It would be important information to have when choosing the clothes for you and not necessarily something they will use to disqualify you.

But it’s funny that you wonder what “triumph” has to do with body size. I think some in the fashion world do see women who still look great and are confident despite not being super thin as being triumphant somehow. Like, “Aww…she’s so strong, it must be so hard to be a size 8.”
